Garbage Bags

I've been looking online at buying paper bags for our trash cans around the house. bathroom, kitchen, office, etc. Most of them come in plastic wrapping, though, which I'm trying to avoid. They're also usually really small. BUT!!  Last night my husband and I went to Kroger and I noticed that they provide paper shopping bags in self check out as an alternative to plastic.

Realizing this, I forget about my quest for reasonably sized paper bags and get excited that now we don't have to bring home plastic bags! (I actually did find a reusable option for the bags, but that's for another post.) My husband wasn't thrilled, since paper bags ARE more difficult to carry and he can't take everything from the vehicle to the house in one trip.

Anyway, back to shopping! We get home and I'm folding up the paper bags, trying to figure out a way to reuse them. Will I make paper? Shipping envelopes for my etsy?? No clue. But then it hits me that these bags might actually fit the garbage bin in the bathroom! So, obviously I take the bags and run to the bathroom. I pull out the plastic bag and stuff the paper one inside. It technically fits, though the  bottom is a bit wide. However, it serves the purpose of replacing the plastic bags!

(I will insert pictures at a later date)

Like I said, it's not a perfect fit but it does well, especially since we don't have a lot of waste in the bathroom.

Today we had to go out to buy picture frames to make doors for my bearded dragon's enclosure. I might eventually share about her, but not today. We're at Dollar Tree and my husband notices paper lunch sacks! We think they'll be a good fit for the tiny garbage bin in my home office. Even though they come wrapped in a bit of plastic, there are 40 bags in a package. I don't have a need to change the bin in there except maybe once a week or so, so they'll definitely last a while.

I've learned that it isn't necessarily about not buying ANY plastic, but if it's worth it to buy something wrapped with plastic. Do the contents warrant the purchase? In the case of my lunch sacks, it was worth it. I won't have to buy anymore plastic bags for the office, which is amazing. Like I said, it's not always about not buying ANY plastic, but deciding if the purchase is worth it. My husband loves chocolate milk in a plastic gallon jug. After he drinks it, we can reuse the container. I've made watering jugs for my gardens with an empty milk jug.
